Who are we?

Dublin Vikings

We are the Dublin Vikings - A competitive dragon boat racing team based in the heart of Dublin City.

Dublin Vikings – Ireland’s first open dragon boat racing team – was founded in 2012 in the Grand Canal Dock. Now, in our eighth season, we remain the only dragon boat club in Dublin that welcomes people of all age, gender, and ability who wish to partake in dragon boat racing.

Over the years, we have had hundreds participate in our training sessions, ranging from those passing through Dublin that call in for a paddle to see what it’s all about to those that love the sport and become long-term members.

Throughout the year, the club trains every Saturday morning in the Grand Canal Dock. During the Summer, to take advantage of the long evenings and great weather, there is an additional training session on a Thursday.

The team competes in regattas both in and around Ireland and abroad. Some of our racing highlights include taking first place in regattas in Dublin, Donegal, Venice, and London. The club aims to promote the sport of dragon boat racing in the Dublin Docklands and to represent Dublin with a competitive team wherever we race.

The club is funded almost exclusively by our members’ contributions. In 2018, we were successful in accessing funding through Dublin City Council’s grant program. Dublin City Council saw the potential within the club and decided to support our application to allow our club to develop further by providing us with the funding to purchase a boat and the relevant equipment.
